‘Made in Germany’ – this mark of quality is inextricably linked to the wristwatches manufactured by POINTtec under the brands Zeppelin, Iron Annie, Junkers (until 2019), Rosenthal, and Maximilian München, and has been a cornerstone of the company’s philosophy since its founding nearly 35 years ago.
From now on, ‘Made in Germany’ and POINTtec will be more closely connected than ever: Starting August 1, 2019, POINTtec will take over all employees from the watch assembly department of its long-standing production partner Gardé Uhren und Feinmechanik Ruhla GmbH in Ruhla, Thuringia. We are very pleased to continue employing these experienced staff members at the traditional site, who know our watches inside and out. This step ensures the high manufacturing quality of our watches for the long term.
Since 1862, a production site for precision mechanical components has existed at the historic location in Ruhla, which eventually transitioned into watch manufacturing in 1892. In 1929, the Bauhaus building designed by the Jena architects Schreiter & Schlag, now a listed heritage site, was constructed. This building still houses the watch production as well as the Ruhla Watch Museum, which is also continued by POINTtec. Before reunification, millions of watches and movements were produced here by the ‘VEB Uhrenwerk Ruhla’.
"With this acquisition, POINTtec strengthens its position as one of the leading German watch producers and sends a clear signal in support of manufacturing in Germany. Founded in 1987, POINTtec has relied for decades on top-quality suppliers who also provide components to well-known luxury watch manufacturers. The principle of POINTtec’s founder and owner, Willi Birk, is to always offer customers watches of the highest quality at the best possible price-performance ratio.
POINTtec is pleased to be able to manufacture the award-winning Bauhaus series in an authentic style at the newly founded company ‘Uhrenwerke Ruhla GmbH’ in the company’s own Bauhaus building in the future.
