POINTtec and its watch brands ZEPPELIN, IRON ANNIE, and bauhaus are now represented in over 35 countries. At the end of June 2022, we invited around 40 of our top international customers to a multi-day event to get to know us and our company better. The event kicked off with a traditional Bavarian Weißwurst breakfast at the Flugwerft Schleißheim, while the Zeppelin NT was being prepared for takeoff. Our guests then enjoyed group flights over our hometown of Munich aboard the Zeppelin NT—an unforgettable experience, complemented by a visit to the nearby Aircraft Museum. After the last Zeppelin passengers had safely returned, the group traveled by coach to the watchmaking town of Ruhla in Thuringia, where our production facility is located.
The next morning, our group made a detour to the nearby Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an important landmark of the Reformation. It was here that Martin Luther translated the New Testament. After lunch, it was finally time to visit our site in Ruhla, whose history dates back to 1862. The once vast industrial complex employed around 8,000 workers until reunification, developing and manufacturing all kinds and variations of watches and movements, as well as the machines needed for production. After reunification, the company was broken up and much of the factory was demolished. Only one heritage-protected building, constructed in the Bauhaus style in 1929, remained. Since then, it has housed a small watch assembly operation and the Ruhla Watch Museum, which brings the site’s history to life. Since 2019, the watch assembly, the building, and the museum have been an integral part of our family business, having served as a production site for our watches since the early 1990s when we first became a customer there. Our guests were given a guided tour to share this long and fascinating history. After a journey into the past, the present and future followed: the new collections of the ZEPPELIN, IRON ANNIE, and bauhaus brands were presented and could be examined and tried on in detail before the evening program and the departure the following morning. It was an all-round successful event where our guests could experience up close how the products they distribute come to life. You can watch the video of the event here.
