FAQ

1) What kind of warranty comes with my watch?
Warranty Terms

Our two-year manufacturer’s warranty is valid throughout Germany and is independent of the statutory warranty. During the warranty period, we provide free repairs or adjustments in case of issues with the movement, case, or metal bracelets, provided the watch has been operated according to the instructions.

The following cases are not covered by the warranty, even if they occur within the warranty period:

No warranty is provided on technical wear parts that are subject to normal aging, such as the mainspring (only in mechanical watches), crowns, pushers, case tubes, case back seals, and glass seals related to water resistance. All seals are wear parts and can harden and lose their function after just one year. Please also refer to the question “Is my watch water-resistant?” for more information.

Furthermore, we do not provide any warranty for typical signs of wear. This includes leather straps, damage to the glass, case, and bezel, unless these are due to a manufacturing defect, as well as damage caused by the customer. This includes, for example, consequential damage resulting from impacts or shocks.

To claim the warranty, the warranty certificate must be presented. Please send this along with the invoice and a description of the defect to our service department. Kindly include the purchase receipt and the completed warranty certificate with the article number and serial number (see case back engraving).

2) How can I care for and clean my watch?
Fingerprints and other dirt can be removed with a soft cloth.

Please keep in mind that mechanical and automatic watches are sensitive to shocks and should be protected from impacts and strong vibrations (e.g., from contact sports).

To ensure optimal accuracy in mechanical watches, you should wind the watch to a medium spring tension before wearing it. Please do not wind the watch all the way to the stop, as this could damage it.

Please do not wear your watch while swimming in the sea, showering, or bathing. Saltwater, detergents, and UV radiation can damage the seals on the glass, case back, and crown. If your watch does come into contact with any of these substances, rinse it immediately with clean water.

3) How long does a leather strap last, and how can I care for it?
As a natural material, even high-quality leather like the one we use for our straps is subject to environmental influences and, consequently, the aging process.
It is advisable to remove watches with leather straps before showering or swimming, as exposure to water significantly reduces the lifespan of the strap.

Regular care of the strap can, however, help protect the leather for a longer time. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a special leather cleaner. It is important to let the leather strap dry slowly afterward and not expose it to heat sources (such as a hairdryer or radiator).

4) Are all watches from the company POINTTEC "MADE IN GERMANY
All of our watches are quality products MADE IN GERMANY. Our goal is to offer our customers the highest quality, combined with a distinctive and sophisticated design, at an affordable price.
5) Where can I get an instruction manual for my watch?
On our website, next to each watch model, there is a link labeled "Download Manual." There you can view and download the instruction manuals.
6) Where can I get a catalog?
Any of our authorized dealers will be happy to provide you with a catalog if you ask for one at a sales location. Alternatively, you can also fill out the contact form on our website with a corresponding request.
7) Is my watch water-resistant?
Yes, all our watches are waterproof, but to varying degrees depending on the model. Information about the water resistance can be found on the case back. The term “waterproof” is usually accompanied by a pressure rating, for example, 10 bar / 10 atm.

The water resistance ratings refer to the time of testing. Over time, the seals can lose their elasticity due to external factors such as sunlight, shower gels, saltwater, and sweat. Impacts to the crown or pushers can also affect water resistance. Therefore, water resistance cannot be guaranteed indefinitely.

To be safe, you should have your watch’s water resistance checked annually. Also, avoid exposing a hot watch to liquids (for example, going into water right after sunbathing), as sudden changes in pressure can cause moisture to enter the watch.

8) Which movements are used in production?
For our watches, we use only high-quality movements from renowned Swiss and Japanese manufacturers, both in the quartz and mechanical categories.
For quartz watches, we use movements from the Swiss manufacturers ETA and Ronda.
In the mechanical segment, the movements come from the renowned manufacturers ETA and Sellita (both Switzerland) and the Japanese manufacturers Miyota and Seiko (both Japan).

9) What types of glass are used in our watches?
We use only K1 safety glass, hesalite glass, and sapphire crystal in our production. Please note that strong impacts can cause damage to the glass, dials, or movements.
10) What is the expected glow duration of the luminous parts of the watch?
We use only the best luminous material available on the market.
The advantage is that it is neither radioactive nor toxic. Additionally, it allows for unlimited repeated charging and discharging.

The glow lasts approximately 6 to 10 hours under normal daylight exposure.

11) What is the difference between the terms 'chronograph' and 'chronometer'?
A watch is called a “chronograph” if, in addition to displaying the current time, it has a stopwatch function. The term chronograph must not be confused with the term “chronometer,” which is a quality certification for a watch that has been officially tested for particularly high accuracy. This watch does not have to have a stopwatch function (see also accuracy).

All watches we offer as chronometers are tested and certified by the Chronometer Testing Institute at the Glashütte Observatory according to the strict criteria of DIN 8319. This means that every watch is delivered with an individual certificate, including the test results. To receive the coveted certificate, the watches undergo a 15-day testing procedure in five positions: “crown left,” “crown up,” “crown down,” “dial up,” and “dial down.” The average daily rate must be between -4 and +6 seconds, with the average daily deviation not exceeding two seconds and the maximum deviation not exceeding five seconds. All watches are tested at temperatures of 23°C, 8°C, and 38°C, with a humidity of approximately 50%. Thus, all our chronometers guarantee the highest level of timekeeping accuracy and watchmaking craftsmanship on a world-class level.

12) What is the difference between mechanical watches and quartz watches?
Mechanical watches are powered by movements that use a mainspring as their energy source. Hand-wound movements must be wound manually using the crown. In automatic movements, winding is done by a rotor that rotates with the motion of the wearer’s wrist. The amount of time an automatic watch continues to run without being worn is called the power reserve. This ensures that the watch doesn't stop overnight. The second hand moves in small increments (usually 4–5 steps) before reaching the next second marker.

Most quartz watches are powered by batteries, which need to be replaced at regular intervals. Unlike mechanical watches, the second hand of a quartz watch moves in distinct one-second steps.

13) How precise is my watch?
Accuracy is given as the time deviation within a specific period. The deviations vary depending on the movement and its price. Most mechanical watches have an average accuracy tolerance of -10 to +30 seconds per day. Quartz watches have an average accuracy ranging from -0.5 to +0.7 seconds per day.
